Sexy Sniggers — Anatomy Lesson thru Text
Posted by Saucy Sexy on November 3rd, 2005 filed in Sexy Sniggers |I read in the papers that the indefatigable Lolit Solis, a TV host known for her outrageous comments, was acting up again by saying “paltos singit” on the air, and, consequently, was banned and fined for it. I was not familiar with the phrase so I texted a friend asking what does it mean and why was it so bad that it caused the TV Board to ban her for a while.
My friend sent a SMS saying that ‘paltos’ is like the hardened piece of skin that you get from too much friction, like the most common one is located on the foot because of the constant rubbing of the shoe against the skin.
Still bemused, I asked, “Why would having a ‘paltos’ on the waist be offensive?” At this point, I had remembered the teasing warning “kukuritin kita sa singit (I’ll pinch you on the singit)” and how people would always bend at the waist to avoid the pinching fingers whenever it was said, so I was bewildered how such an innocent remark could be considered an affront to the TV viewers’ sensibilities.
Exasperated but amused, my friend had to explain that ’singit’ was not located at the waist but at the vulnerable junction of a person’s groin and thigh.
When I asked why the threatening people always made a motion towards the waist, which I found misleading, she texted that it would be too inappropriate to reach for the actual location, so, out of courtesy, individuals reach for the waist instead.
But I was still bamboozled by the phrase, so I queried, “Why would saying ‘paltos singit’ be regarded as ‘bastos’ (offensive)?” to which she replied, “Bastos because of the ’singit’! That part got sore maybe because of… too much sex?!?”
The final piece of the puzzle was put into place, and another educational moment was made possible by texting.

‘Paltos’ is the blister caused by too much friction, while ’singit’ is the groin itself, not ‘the junction of a person’s groin and thigh’
