Condom Dos and Don’ts

Do NOT Put the Condom in Your Wallet- Why? Because most wallets don’t have ventilation, and, are put in back pockets, two simple acts that increase the temperature the condom is subjected to considerably, causing the condom’s lubrication to dry up, increasing the risks of the condom breaking. |
Do NOT Put the Condom in Your Pants’ Pocket- Working on the same principle of increased temperature, keeping the condom in your pocket against your body that is producing heat, will increase the risks of the condom breaking due to the disappearance of the condom’s lubrication. |
DO Keep the Condom Wrapped in a Cotton Handkerchief- Aside from privacy, keeping the condom in a cotton handkerchief will keep it cool because there’s ventilation; plus, it protects the condom from heat exposure. |
DO Put the Wrapped Condom in a Breast Pocket- If you must bring it, try to wear a shirt with a breast pocket so you can slide the handkerchief with the condom inside the breast pocket. Make sure it’s a loose shirt so the condom won’t be against your body, which is producing heat. |
I would like to thank DKT (a NGO promoting contraceptives and family planning), and the Bare Essentials staff, with their help and expertise.
