Kris Aquino as Marriage Counselor

The episode of ABS-CBN Kapamilya Deal or No Deal on 13 November 2006 had the added surprise of host Kris Aquino acting as a pseudo “marriage counselor” to a male contestant and his wife.

“Be nice to your wife.” I jokingly refer to the Kapamilya Deal or No Deal portion where the contestants ask somebody for advice regarding which number to pick as the opportunity to blame somebody else when the briefcase is revealed to be a high number.

When the male contestant asked his wife to pick a briefcase number that unfortunately showed 300,000, he clearly blamed his wife which caused Kris Aquino to reprimand him by reminding him to be nice to his wife and that he picked the 2M and 1M briefcases, which are way more than 300,000.

“Aren’t you going to be a gentleman?” Near the end of the Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, Kris Aquino requested the wife to join her husband. Awkwardly going down from the stand where she and all the relatives were, Kris Aquino chided him, “Aren’t you going to be a gentleman?” That prompted him to rush forward to help her out.

“It’s YOUR decision.” Following Kris Aquino’s directions of standing side by side while holding hands, the final couple of rounds had the husband wanting to pass on the blame again to his wife by asking her to pick the number, at which Kris Aquino reminded him sharply, “It’s YOUR decision.”

And, indeed, it is the contestant’s decision because whatever advice is given to him by his wife or any relative/friend, the contestant is still asked for which number to open. He may or may not accept the advice.

“You should listen to your wife.” When it was crunch time and it was more prudent to say deal, the husband clearly wanted to go on. Kris Aquino chastised him gently, “You should listen to your wife.”

Fortunately, he did.

On a final note, I just want to say that it’s so lovely to see that Kris Aquino has matured a lot and learned from her disastrous past relationships, and apparently knows what to demand from her current partner.
