For Him — How to Break Up with Your Partner

An Informal Survey
Since the Virgin Labfest 4 play’s title was Kung Paano Maghiwalay (How to Break Up), I made an informal survey of an estimated nine females and one male who were either involved with the play creatively or have seen it onstage. I asked them, “How would you prefer to break up with somebody? Would a text, letter or phone call be okay?”

Dapat Harapan (It Should Be Face to Face)
Surprisingly, all of them wanted to be face to face with their partner for the breakup. One called it “cowardly” not to do so. Another felt the breakup will not be real unless she was told to her face that her partner is breaking up with her.

Somewhere Private
Since it will most probably be an emotional scene, most preferred a place where a sense of privacy can be assured, so a restaurant should be definitely avoided.

Should There Be a Reason?
When I inquired if the partner should provide a reason for the breakup, initially, most of them wanted an explanation, but, when I asked if the person cannot provide a logical reason for the breakup, most answered they would be satisfied with the personal meeting.

It’s Never Easy
To quote a line from the George de Jesus entry for the fourth Virgin Labfest, “You can try to make it easy but more often than not, it never is.”
