At the end of Ellas Inocentes during the Virgin Labfest 3 Revisited, a trilogy of plays, last 05 July 2008, I rushed outside to try and catch playwright Layeta Bucoy, and find out if the story of the two children, who also happened to be sisters and lovers, was true.

Ellas Inocentes Is Based On A True Story
Playwright Layeta Bucoy confirmed that the one act play is based on a true story. She has met the children and the person who caught them pleasuring each other.

Ellas Inocentes are Imprisoned
Playwright Layeta Bucoy also revealed that although the play depicted the two children as being locked in two rooms, in reality, the two children were imprisoned to keep them away from each other. When I expressed my shock, she explained that it happened in the province, so matters such as incest and lesbianism are still treated differently.

Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?
Since they were children, I was fascinated with how the children could have come up with the concept. In the play, it was implied that they saw their mother and her lovers while making love, and gives the basis for their own sexual activities.

But, could the ‘real’ children have discovered masturbation and oral pleasure by themselves in a natural way, maybe even instinctively? Playwright Layeta Bucoy merely said that none of the family members would talk about it. And, before I could probe further, the three chimes for the next play sounded, and I barely made it to a seat inside the Tanghalang Huseng Batute Theater in the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
