How to Learn How Many Kids You’ll Have

The most recent public demonstration of this method was done by Ellen Degeneres, who was proven correct several months later when Jessica Alba gave birth to a baby girl that she and husband Cash Warren named Honor Marie. So how do you do it?

Tie a Ring with a Strand of Hair
I learned this method from a friend, and there will probably be variations, but this is what my girlfriends and I do. Guys can do this too, by the way.

Pick a plain ring with no embellishments (e.g. stones), and tie a strand of hair around one part.

Place the Ring Over the Wrist’s Pulse
Choose someone with a steady strong arm who can hold the strand of hair with the ring on top of the person’s pulse on the wrist. The variation that can be seen on the video above is that Ellen held the ring over Jessica Alba’s palm instead of the wrist.

Circle for a Girl and Side to Side for a Boy
Believe it or not, the ring will move by itself. If it moves in a circle, then it’s a girl; if the ring moves side to side like a pendulum, it’s a boy. Note that the circumference for the circular movement or the height of the pendulum can be different. The momentum of the movement may also vary. Sometimes, it will be slow, yet there will be times it will move decisively and strongly.

Stop the Ring and Repeat
Once you have established the sex of the first child, then grasp the ring firmly to stop its movement. Put it back to the starting position over the wrist’s pulse. Repeat the process until the ring just stays still and spins gently in place.

The Number of Children Changes With Time
The number of kids you’ll have will change with the passing of time and circumstances. For example, before college, a friend of mine was supposed to have five or more (sorry, can’t remember the exact number) children, but, when she decided to become a nun and took a vow of chastity, the ring refused to move. We did it three times to make sure.

In general, for females, the number of possible children will decrease over the years, which is logical because a female’s child bearing years are, scientifically, supposed to be limited.

Experiment with It
A group of friends on a casual get-together would be a great time to do this activity, especially if none have children yet. Make sure to document the results so that you can compare the actual sex and number of children at a future date.

Do this on a whim, and don’t take it too seriously.
