Sexy Female Star with Psychiatric Disorder?

As the antics of a sexy female star are once again discussed on Philippine TV, and then coupled with the imminent release of her album, my brother incredulously asked, “She did all these just to promote her CD?”

Shaking my head, I replied, “No, no, of course not,” and added my theory, “She’s a psycho.”

This sexy star’s personal history is littered with scandalous emotional scenes, supposed suicide threats and sibling squabbles, and has lately simmered down to word wars and kissing scandals even though she has a long time partner. This vamp’s exploits have been repeatedly reported in the gossip columns, television and via the ever reliable word of mouth route.

A Google search for center of attention and psychiatric disorder will produce Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD), which is defined by Wikipedia as “a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking, including an excessive need for approval and inappropriate seductiveness, usually beginning in early adulthood,” and with the note that “People with this disorder are usually able to function at a high level and can be successful socially and at work.”

Wikipedia even helpfully lists some of its symptoms via a mnemonic tool PRAISE ME

P - provocative (or seductive) behavior
R - relationships, considered more intimate than they are
A - attention, must be at center of
I - influenced easily
S - speech (style) - wants to impress, lacks detail
E - emotional liability, shallowness
M - make-up - physical appearance used to draw attention to self
E - exaggerated emotions - theatrical
