David Letterman Flirts with Enchanted Amy Adams

Amy Adams was a guest of David Letterman last 28 February 2008, which I caught on Philippine cable TV a couple of days later.
Amy Adams, who became a household name after her Disney film Enchanted, was there to promote her new film Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which is playing in selected cities, which made the famous host quip quite seriously, “I just pray to God your city has been selected.”
The Pregnant Pause
David Letterman asked curiously, “How do you get from working in dinner theater (in Minnesota) to being a major motion picture star (in LA)?”
Amy Adams replied with a meaningful look, “Well…” And followed it with a pregnant pause that caused David Letterman and the studio audience to laugh appreciatively at the joke implying that she arrived via the casting couch.
Suggestive Nudity
At Amy Adams’ correction that it’s just “suggestive nudity” for her new film Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, David Letterman quickly acquiesces, “It’s not stark I’m walking around naked, but it’s enough to make you go, ‘Oh…’”
Amy Adams agrees, “It makes you look twice.”
David Letterman enthusiastically concurs, “It certainly does. It made me look twice for heaven’s sake. I’m still checking the tape.”
Ass Grabbing with Meryl Streep
Instead of letting Amy Adams say goodbye after the film clip, David Letterman lengthens the interview with the suggestion that he be included in the new film that she’s working on, “It would be a lot of fun. You, and me, and Meryl Streep… grab ass on the set. Meryl Streep taught me everything I know about grab ass.”
Acerbic David Letterman Flirts
Just in case you’re getting the impression that David Letterman practically said nothing else but sexual innuendoes, he also talked with Amy Adams about her recent walk down the red carpet and singing stint at the 80th Academy Awards, her big family of which she is the middle child of seven children, and being a tap dancing pig.
And, to introduce Amy Adams’ film Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which also stars Oscar winning actress Frances McDormand, David Letterman declares, “It’s beautiful. And fun. And you’re just lovely. You just radiate on the screen. I was happy to be there from minute one to the last minute when they rolled the names.”
This is high praise indeed from a man who routinely whips, lashes and slices with his tongue, and he doesn’t care whom he does it to. I still remember cringing repeatedly when he subjected Barbara Walters to his acerbic tongue.
